Melissa García

Class of 2021

Hello all! My name is Melissa Garcia. I am currently a 3L and Immigration Law Society’s Dilley Trip Coordinator. One of the main reasons I decided to go to law school is because I want to help the, unfortunately, often-powerless immigrant community. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, I grew up witnessing many injustices against the immigrant community. Now more than ever, I find it crucial to do my part to help.

Last January, I had the opportunity to travel with ILS to Dilley, TX to provide free legal support for asylum-seeking women and children at the largest immigrant family detention center in the US. It was truly an eye-opening experience. Listening to the stories of the women at the detention center angered me. I choose to channel this anger into my passion for immigration work. There is much work to be done and I am thankful to have the support of Immigration Law Society to do this.
