In December 2014, the federal government opened the largest immigrant family detention center, the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas. The population is composed entirely of women and children and nearly all are seeking asylum.
On March 11, 2018, twelve Chicago-Kent students in our Immigration Law Society traveled to Dilley for a week to provide legal support to detainees.
In January 2019, students will return to Dilley as part of a two credit class. Learn more about these students on the Dilley Volunteers page.
