Administered by Washington College of Law (American University), this tri-lingual competition is based on a hypothetical case to be argued before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Issues may include torture, terrorism, gender discrimination, indigenous rights, freedom of the press, environmental pollution, or other areas of law. A two-person team will be assigned to represent either the accused state or the human rights commission and writes and argues for only that side. The 2009 competition will be May 17-22, in Washington, DC.
