Chicago-Kent Lambdas Panel: Queer and Trans Criminal (In)Justice

In celebration of Chicago-Kent College of Law’s Diversity Week 2019, the Chicago-Kent Lambdas & Criminal Law Society proudly present “Queer & Trans Criminal (In)Justice: A Panel on the Intersection of Gender, Sexuality, & Race in the Criminal Justice System.” This panel will discuss the experiences of queer and trans folx, especially QTPOC, and assess the impact of the criminal justice system on these communities. Panelists included: Kara Ingelhart – Lambda Legal, Staff Attorney Rev. Jason Lydon – Black and Pink, Founder & Former National Director Ruby Pinto – Chicago Community Bond Fund, Campaign Coordinator Brian Scanlon – Cook County Public Defender Facilitated by Crystal Huggard, Chicago-Kent JD Candidate, ’21.

During Diversity Week 2018, Lambdas Secretary Elisabeth Hieber moderated a discussion with Reyna Ortiz, a Trans Latinx activist and author.

Elisabeth began by introducing the wide ranging work and talents of Reyna, then continued with questions she had prepared, from basic vocabulary to outreach and advocacy within and for the trans community. The event ended with an open Q&A with the audience.
