Hello! My name is Amanda Ortiz. I am a 3L and a first generation law student. I came to law school with the intention of being an immigration lawyer. I’ve lived all my life around the immigrant community, so I’ve always known someone who is undocumented. Because of that, I have seen the struggles they face because of their status.
I have volunteered and interned at many non-profit organizations, such as Ascend Justice and the Resurrection Project in Chicago, and the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project in Arizona. I have loved every minute of it. Hearing people’s stories continues to motivate me to want to make a difference.
I believe that it’s my turn to give back and help those who are time and again powerless in the United States, and I am excited to graduate soon and practice immigration law.
