Dilley Statement:

As someone working in indigent defense, I routinely navigate unequal power structures that prey on vulnerable people by weaponizing stereotypes, shortcuts, and fear.

Our current immigration system is similar; it is a machine that increasingly processes people, families, and communities without regard for history, basic dignity, or humanity. The CARA Family Detention Pro Bono Project is getting in that system’s way.

As a volunteer, I am eager to gain experience in immigration law and learn how to become a better advocate. I hope to also learn more about how best to reform the immigration and asylum systems going forward.
