Faculty-Student Election Committee: The American Constitution Society, ACLU, and the SBA worked with Dean Krug and the faculty to create a faculty-student election committee to share non-partisan acs.
The Public Interest Resource Center (PIRC) is happy to announce the NEW Pro Bono Tracking System. Please see the attached PIRC flier for details. Ascend Justice Winter Immersion Program 2020-2021: Experience an immersive introduction to domestic violence litigation by spending one or more weeks helping self-represented litigants petition the court for order of protection through Ascend Justice’s Emergency Protection Project. Three one-week sessions are available over the Winter Break. This experience is currently Remote. Please see attached for more information on this program. *This opportunity is normally held in-person at the Domestic Violence Courthouse on Harrison, only 3 blocks from Chicago-Kent. Once you are trained to volunteer, this can be an on-going volunteer opportunity for you.
KJF Justice Walk: In lieu of our Annual Wine Night, Kent Justice Foundation will be hosting the First Annual "Justice Walk" on Saturday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Montrose Running Track (4400 N Lakeshore Drive). Participants are also welcome to join us virtually through social media. 95% of the funds raised will go directly to the KJF Fellowship Fund, which provides financial assistance to students who secure unpaid public interest internships. The remaining 5% of our proceeds will be donated to SOUL Chicago. Everybody who signs up will be automatically entered to a raffle. Additionally, we are giving out prizes to (a) the student who walks the longest distance and (b) the student who raises the most money. If you’re interested in participating on BLSA’s Moot Court team, then you’re in luck! The Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition has opened up their registration! The regional competition will take place virtually from February 3-6th. The Regional competitions consist of a maximum of 18 teams made up of two advocates per team. Teams will write briefs arguing on behalf of the petitioner and respondent. Regional competitions will simulate an appellate oral argument proceeding. For each round, oral arguments for each side will consist of no more than 30 minutes, including rebuttal. Competitors are evaluated on their overall ability as an appellate advocate. After each side articulates their argument, the judges score each competitor using the official TMMCC rubric. Overall, each round lasts no more than 1.5 hours from. The top three placing teams from each of the six regional conventions will be invited to compete at the National Convention, March 3-7th, 2021. The Black Law Students Association Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition has opened up its registration! The Regional CBMMTC consists of a maximum of 18 teams. Rounds simulate a civil trial proceeding where each team, consisting of four members each, offers opening statements, direct and cross examination of witnesses, and closing arguments. The top three placing teams from the regional convention will be invited to compete at the National Convention Advocacy Competition. Witnesses are not scored in the competition. Advocates are evaluated on their overall courtroom presence, command of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, teamwork, and accuracy of objections. Each trial lasts approximately two and one-half hours.

Seeking Applications for the HNBA Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition:
HLLSA is looking for 2L, 3L, and 4L students interested in participating in the Hispanic National Bar Association’s 26th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition. The competition brings together 32 teams of law students from the nation’s top law schools to argue a case currently before the United States Supreme Court. The 2021 competition will take place virtually on March 9-12, 2021 (note: this will occur during dates scheduled for regular class sessions).

Each school may send one team of up to three students. The application process is open to any student in their second year of law school and above, regardless of their involvement in HLLSA. The moot court team is selected by a committee of HLLSA board members and Moot Court Honor Society board members. If you are interested please submit the following materials directly to hllsa:

A legal writing sample (PDF format, full appellate brief from Legal Writing II preferred, but all submissions welcome)

Your resume (not necessary to list GPA)

A brief statement on why you are interested in competing in a moot court competition, which includes whether you are able to work on the brief over winter break

C-K Mental Health Coffee Talks: Coffee Talks offer a forum for students to discuss mental health and stress management. 3L students will talk about their experiences in law school and take questions from any students in attendance. The goal of the event is to provide 1L students with an opportunity to discuss the stresses of law school and hear about study strategies, personal organization tips, and mental health practices that helped older students succeed in law school. Health Law Career Panel and Networking: Please join the Chicago-Kent Health Law Society and the Office of Career Services virtually on Friday, November 6th, from 5-6:30pm for a career panel discussion, followed by a networking opportunity. The purpose of the event is to discuss the different areas of health law and career options available for students, including regulatory compliance, medical malpractice litigation, in-house health insurance, and non-profit work.

Women in Law Professor Perspectives Panel: Please join the Society of Women in Law for a panel event featuring several wonderful women on the Chicago-Kent faculty on Friday, November 13, from 3:00 PM–4:30 PM. Professors Batlan, Baker, Carmona, Andrews, Aleisa, Johnson, Keller, Robbins, Shapiro, and Silvestri will share their experience as women in the legal profession, as well as their insight and advice for law students.
