Constitution Week Is Here!
Date: Sep 12, 2016 to Sep 15, 2016
Constitution Week at Chicago-Kent has arrived!
Celebrate the signing of the Constitution with ACS all this week! We’re hosting all sorts of events from Monday the 12th through Monday the 19th. We hope that you join us for one or all of our planned events, and we’re looking forward to a week of great events. Check out what we’ve got planned below:
Monday, September 12: Pocket Constitutions
When: 9:00am-1:00pm
Where: First Floor Lobby
On Monday we’ll be in the lobby distributing pocket Constitutions to anyone who wants them. A necessity in ConLaw, 2L’s should definitely take advantage of the opportunity to get their own pocket Constitution for free! 1L’s and 3L’s are welcome to come get copies as well, and everyone is eligible to enter into our raffle for a framed, full-size replica Constitution. Come visit ACS at our table on the first floor to pick up your pocket Constitution, and sign up for the raffle!
Tuesday, September 13: Panel Discussion: Whole Woman’s Health: TRAP Laws and the Current State of Abortion Jurisprudence
When: 12:00pm
Where: Room C50
Join ACS and CK’s ACLU chapter for a panel discussion on SCOTUS’ decision in Whole Woman’s Health, its implications for abortion laws nationwide, and enjoy free pizza! We’ll be joined by Professor Carolyn Shapiro, as well as Jenna Prochaska, an ACLU Legal Fellow with the Reproductive Rights Project.
Tuesday, September 13: Panel Discussion: The Future of Violence: Robots and Germs, Hackers and Drones
When: 3:00pm
Where: Marovitz Courtroom
The Future of Violence won CK’s 2015 Palmer Civil Liberties Prize for outstanding scholarship on the tension between civil liberties and national security. Join Benjamin Wittes from the Brookings Institution and Gabriella Blum from Harvard Law for a discussion about the award-winning book.
Thursday, September 15: Happy Hour with the ACS Chicago Lawyers Chapter
When: 6:00pm-8:30pm
Where: Blackfinn Ameripub, 65 W. Kinzie St., Chicago, IL 60654 (map)
Join ACS CK, other Chicago-area ACS chapters, and the ACS Chicago Lawyers chapter for happy hour drinks at Blackfinn in River North. This is a great opportunity to network with progressive lawyers in Chicago.
Saturday, September 17: National Constitution Day!
Monday, September 19: Constitution Day 2016: “Crisis on the Court? The Constitution, Politics, and the Vacancy on the Supreme Court”
When: 4:00pm
Where: Room 510
Professors Schmidt and Shapiro will be discussing the current Supreme Court vacancy, and whether an eight Justice Court is really such a bad thing.
We’re looking forward to seeing you all, and celebrating the signing of the Constitution all week long!
