Fall 2020 Updates

Welcome to the first week of Fall 2020 classes! We look forward to serving you this year.

The first two weeks of classes will be fully online (as of 8/14/20): Administration expects hybrid classes to begin meeting on campus (for those students who have elected to attend on campus) on September 8, 2020. These plans may be subject to change pending updates statewide or in Chicago. Email fall2020 with questions, concerns, or if you need to be on campus prior to September 8.

The Law Library has revised building hours during the two weeks of all remote classes:

Library Hours (Sunday, Aug. 23-Friday, Sept. 4)

Sunday: CLOSED

Monday-Thursday: 9:30 am – 5:30 pm

Friday: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm

Saturday: CLOSED

Labor Day Holiday (Sept. 5 – Sept. 7): CLOSED

Events

Career Services: What’s Next for 2Ls? Meets this Wednesday 8/26 at 3 pm. 2Ls, check your email or the SBA Calendar for the Zoom Link.

The Chicago Bar Association hosts a range of law student member events this Fall. See the attached flyer for more information or visit www.chicagobar.org. Upcoming events include:

  • September 10: a virtual opportunity for students to find out about CBA’s YLS division and various committees.

  • September 21-25: A virtual scavenger hunt in lieu of the annual CBA Back to School Bash

  • October 29: Pro Bono & Community Service Fair

"What I Wish I Knew" Women in Law Panel: SBA Career Committee and Chicago-Kent Career Services are pleased to present an opportunity for women to share industry insights on October 1, 2020, from 5-6:30 p.m.

National Network for Student Events: NALSAP (National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals) recognizes that the pandemic created new opportunities for Student Orgs to network and collaborate nationally. If your student organization is interested in collaborating with other U.S. orgs who share similar purposes, please complete this survey by Friday, September 4, 2020.

NALSAP Student Organization Events Calendar: is a resource for law students to locate or publicize events hosted by law students at U.S. and Canadian NALSAP Member Institutions. If your org is interested in submitting your virtual event for the NALSAP calendar, please complete this form at least two weeks prior to the event.

Upcoming Deadlines

Student Health Insurance Waiver: Domestic students who have an insurance plan that meet the waiver requirements set by IIT may elect to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan. The deadline to waive is September 1, 2020. If you do not complete the online Waiver Form by the deadline, you will automatically be enrolled in the Student Insurance Plan, and will not be able to submit a late waiver or request a refund.

New Student Organizations

The Racial Equity and Advocacy Alliance’s mission is to empower students to dismantle patterns of racism and injustice in our communities. This organization will allow students to bridge the gap of racial inequity among every social, political, and economical sphere. Each semester the board will vote on an area where they want to focus their efforts, providing students an opportunity to work on various social justice reform projects throughout the year. Projects may include criminal justice reform, immigrant’s rights, education, affirmative action, healthcare, housing, employment, and voting rights. Contact Alexandra Rogers and

The First-Generation Law Student Association (First-Gen) seeks to bridge the success gap for students who are the first in their families to attend law school. To bridge this gap, this association will serve as a resource for first-gen law students by hosting learning events, facilitating networking opportunities, and being a forum for free discussion of topics that affect first-generation law students. Scholarship Opportunities

Third Annual Chapman and Cutler Maynard H. Jackson Diversity Scholarship is due September 4, 2020. Applicants must be from a diverse background to apply. Click here to learn more.
