The student org closets, C78, C82, AND C90 will be unavailable to students on October 5 and 6, 2020, as bar exam space for Chicago-Kent alumni.

ASP Session – "Outlining Your Courses": Please join Dean Sowle and Professor Young for an informative workshop on outlining techniques and other study strategies. For day students, the workshop will take place on 9.29.20 at 12 p.m. via Zoom.

C-K Mental Health Coffee Talks: Coffee Talks offer a forum for students to discuss mental health and stress management. 3L students will talk about their experiences in law school and take questions from any students in attendance. The goal of the event is to provide 1L students with an opportunity to discuss the stresses of law school and hear about study strategies, personal organization tips, and mental health practices that helped older students succeed in law school. The next Coffee Talk will take place on Tuesday, September 29 from 12 – 1pm on Zoom.

LURE Webinars: This fall, the Land Use & Real Estate club is hosting a number of webinars with real estate professionals from throughout the industry. Students will get the opportunity to ask questions to all of our guests. You can check out our most recent webinar here. For September, we have the following webinars scheduled:

  • Wednesday, September 30, 12 PM to 1 PM: Land use attorneys Donna Pugh and Michael Noonan of Foley & Lardner LLP

Corporate Law Society: Please join the executive board and CLS members at our first General Assembly Meeting of the semester on Wednesday, September 30th at 3pm on Zoom. We will be announcing our 1L reps, events planned for the fall, and opportunities to get involved. See you then!

The SBA and ACS invite you to attend the RBG Tribute and SCOTUS Vacancy Discussion on Wednesday, September 30 at 5 pm. Our panel features discussion led by:

  • Professor Batlan, on the early life of RBG;

  • Professor Baker, on Ginsburg’s litigation strategy;

  • Professors Shapiro and Schmidt, on the current Supreme Court vacancy.

Harvest Happy Hour: Join SBA member and 3L Class Representative and Cocktail Connoisseur Gabe Kahn from 7:30-9:30 on October 1, 2020, while he shares his favorite autumnal cocktail and mocktail recipes. The Chicago Bar Association will host a Pro Bono and Community Service Fair on October 29. Visit www.chicagobar.org for more information.

Chicago-Kent ACLU will host a general body meeting on October 1 at 12 p.m. Refer to the SBA Calendar for details.

The Racial Equity and Advocacy Alliance will host their first event on Thursday, October 1st at 3PM. We have partnered with First Defense Legal Aid to conduct a Know Your Rights Workshop for the Chicagoland community. Whether you are an activist, organizer, or ordinary person, this will be an amazing opportunity to know your rights and feel comfortable exercising them. Women in Law "How to Land a Job in Law During a Global Pandemic": Women in Law, SBA Career Committee, Chicago-Kent Career Services, and Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law are pleased to present a panel event focused on finding a job during these unprecedented times with advice from successful female attorneys. The event will take place over Zoom on October 1, 2020, from 5-6:30 p.m.

Parents and Caregivers of Chicago-Kent invites you to a general meeting on Friday, October 2nd from 1-2 pm, on Zoom. Please check the SBA Calendar for the Zoom Link.

DALSA Presents: School insurance: How does it work?: Are you new to the School’s health insurance? Are you confused on how to find a doctor or your ID card? Unsure about what the school insurance covers. On Friday, October 2, 2020 from 5 pm – 6 pm we will discuss how to access your ID card, find a doctor, and what potential out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles, or co-pays expenses there may be. We will walk through these things and answer any questions people have. We will also quickly discuss the process of requesting reasonable accommodations as a student through the school. Spring 2021 Judicial Externship Program Informational Meeting: Professor Gross will conduct an informational meeting on Spring 2021 Judicial Externships at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 via Zoom. Please check your inbox for the SBA email titled “Spring 2021 Judicial Externship Information” for the Zoom link and relevant password.

Labor and Employment Law Certificate Program at Chicago-Kent will host a virtual information session for students via Zoom on Thursday, October 8th from 4:45- 6:00 p.m.

DALSA Presents Requesting Reasonable Accommodations: As a follow up to our insurance, we will discuss what can be a reasonable accommodation on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 5 pm – 6 pm. We will have students discuss the type of accommodations they have requested in law school; strategies for communicating with medical professionals to get those accommodations; and getting accommodations for the bar exam. Spring 2021 Legal Externship Program Informational Meeting: Professor Gross will conduct an informational meeting on Spring 2021 Legal Externships at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 via Zoom.
