Student Career Survey: The SBA Career Committee has worked hard this year to try and bridge the gap between Chicago-Kent students and employers. We have created this survey to help our student voices be heard by both the administration and the Career Services Office. We are collecting data to help improve the way students navigate their career paths, and to find new ways CSO may assist students post-pandemic. Taking this survey will help impact and change the Chicago-Kent student experience for the better! After you complete this survey, you will be entered to win one of ten $20 Amazon gift cards, courtesy of SBA!

The survey closes at 11:59 PM on Friday, April 16th. Have any questions or concerns? Please contact SBA Career Committee Chair, Zoe Appler.

The Chicago-Kent Law Review will be hosting FIVE LIVE Zoom sessions for interested and eligible students to learn more about the function and benefits of joining Law Review. We will also share information about the upcoming Law Review Write-on Competition, including Bluebook basics and some tips for approaching the Write-On from some of our members. Expect more details soon, but save the date(s):

  • 6:00 – 7:15: Unpacking Iqbal. Ashcroft v. Iqbal is known as the seminal case that every 1L agonizes over because it transformed the pleading standard starting in 2008. But this case goes beyond pleading standards. It is intertwined with questions surrounding qualified immunity, Xenophobia, Islamophobia and carries a holding that eerily resembles a rationale for blatant racism and discrimination. We have invited panel speakers Professor Alexander Reinert (who argued the case in front of the Supreme Court) and Professor Shirin Sinnar to discuss the impact that Iqbal has had on the entire American litigation system for ethnic and racial minorities.

  • 3:00 p.m.: Women in Law and Immigration Law Society: Pads 4 Refugees Information Session. Join ILS & WIL for a presentation from Pads 4 Refugees, a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to support the dignity of women and girls in refugee camps by providing them with period products. Most governments and international bodies do not provide regular, consistent aid in the form of period products. These women are then placed in the position of having to use unsanitary items like leaves, moss, or old rags every month to manage their period. Without proper hygiene products, young women are also unable to attend school when they are on their period. Pads 4 Refugees was started to fill the gaps in period care. It works with partners on the ground in Greece to deliver the pads.

This writing prize in Nickolas Johnson’s memory is to encourage students to tackle issues of mental health on campus and propose an idea to be implemented by BLSA and SBA for the upcoming school year. Click here for the application. Students can download the application by clicking on the documents in the guide, or find it attached to this newsletter.. The competition funding is donation based, and if you would like to donate, there is information provided below on how to do so. Resources

From ASP:

From the Library:

  • The library has created a resource guide for APALSA and our Asian community, in light of recent events. Students may access the guide here.

  • As part of the Chicago-Kent Law Library’s mission to support the needs of faculty, students, and staff of the law school, our newest library guide highlights resources to support the work being done to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Chicago-Kent: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Resources. In the guide, find links to books, specialized digital collections, study guides, and journals, with many titles you can access digitally through our collections even if you’re not visiting our library in person or requesting books via I-Share at this time. You’ll also find recommendations for antiracism books and authors to support the ongoing work of the Chicago-Kent Antiracism Statement from 2020.

  • We hope you’ll review the resources and use the CK Suggests page if you have suggestions, reviews, or content you’d like to see in the guide in the future.

American Bar Association:

  • Did you know that you get a free ABA membership as a law school student? Sign up using this link for all the perks of membership, including networking opportunities and awesome discounts to study resources! If you have any questions, email your ABA Rep Daniel Kfoury.
