Conviser Law Center Dedication Ceremony: Chicago-Kent’s home, 565 West Adams Street, has been renamed Conviser Law Center in recognition of Professor Richard Conviser’s lifelong service to Chicago-Kent and the legal community. To commemorate this profound moment in the school’s history, there will be a community celebration in honor of Professor Conviser on September 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Conviser Law Center.

Please join other students, faculty, staff, and Chicago-Kent alumni for this very special event. It would mean a lot to Professor Conviser to see as many current Chicago-Kent students there as possible. For more information and to register, please visit here.

ConneKtions @ Dinner is Back! ConneKtions @ Dinner is an opportunity for alumni and students to get together and learn more about one another. Additionally, it is a chance for students to learn about the day-to-day life of a lawyer and discuss other pressing questions about the law. From October 16-23, Chicago-Kent alumni will host a student or group of students for dinner at a day, time, and location predetermined. Students will select alumni based on their availability. Fundamentals of Banking Law: Chicago-Kent College of Law is pleased to sponsor Fundamentals of Banking Law (formerly Banking Law Basics) on November 9-10, 2022, an intensive 2-day program designed to familiarize participants with the basics of bank regulatory law, including the critical policies, concepts, and regulations that have shaped banking law over the years.

Illinois House of Representatives: Opportunities with the Speaker of the House: On Tuesday, September 27th, 12pm – 1pm, Room 700 presenters will give an overview of the General Assembly, the legislative process, the Speaker’s office, and the role of Assistant Counsel to the Speaker. Current and previous Assistant Counsels to the Speaker will offer their advice and share their experiences as attorneys for the Speaker and in their continued career paths. All will be available to answer questions and engage in further discussions. The Office of the Speaker is currently hiring recent law graduates to join them for the Spring 2023 legislative session. Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI): Become an Intern or Fellow: On Wednesday, September 28th at 3pm in room C25, PILI will host an amazing panel of Chicago-Kent alumni and students who will discuss their internship/fellowship experiences, how the internship & fellowship program works, how to apply, and what agency supervisors look for in your application. Featuring Mariangela Monteiro, Equip for Equality, Agency Supervisor; Erin Granger, 2022 PILI Intern at Access Living; and Mia Hayes, 2022 PILI Fellow at Illinois Legal Aid Online. Explore the Possibilities: Public Interest Law (Register now): PILI is hosting the annual Explore the Possibilities Virtual Event on Saturday, October 1, 10am – 1pm (virtually) for law students who are interested in learning more about opportunities as volunteers, interns, externs, fellows or staff in the public interest law sector. The event will feature Miguel Keberlein, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society as the opening plenary speaker; as well as a host of panelists from many Illinois and St. Louis public interest/legal aid agencies, so far including ACLU of Illinois, Arch City Defenders, Ascend Justice, Beyond Legal Aid, Center for Conflict Resolution, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, Federal Defender, Land of Lincoln Legal Aid, Legal Aid Chicago, Legal Aid Society, Legal Council for Health Justice, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, National Immigrant Justice Center as well as government agencies including the Illinois Attorney General, Cook County State’s Attorney Office, Department of Justice, and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Spring 2023 Judicial Externship Program: On Tuesday, October 4, at 12 p.m., via Zoom, Professor Gross will conduct an informational meeting for students interested in participating in the Spring 2023 Judicial Externship Program. Some recent judicial externs will be attending the informational meeting to give you their perspective. If you wish to be added to the calendar invite, please email Suzanne Blaz.

Yoga in the Fitness Center: There will be yoga in the fitness center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am-10:00am throughout the semester. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided!

National Lawyers Guild (NLG): The NLG’s BIGGEST event of the fall is upon us! Disorientation will be October 1-2. We’ll be having some amazing panels on everything from Movement Lawyering and Organization & Activism to How to Survive Law School. Non-Perishable Food Drive: NLG and ILS are teaming up with Enlace Chicago, a local organization to collect non-perishable food for the migrants that Governor Perry continues to bus from Texas.
