Just the Beginning — A Pipeline Organization 12th National Conference: As a part of Just the Beginning – A Pipeline Organization’s (JTB-APO) 12th National Conference and 30th Celebration Anniversary, Chicago-Kent is excited to welcome U.S. district judge Andrea Wood of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; Federal Magistrate Judge Peggy Kuo for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York; and U.S. district judge Richard A. Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington for a discussion on the challenges they’ve faced, overcoming adversity, imposter syndrome, and why diversity is important to the judiciary. This “Robes in the Law Schools” panel discussion will be moderated by 2L Daniel Bailey, on October 20, 2022, at 12:00 PM in Room 580. Lunch will be provided first come first serve.
This panel discussion is a part of the larger conference, which is 100% free for students, and will be held at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park hotel from Thursday, October 20 through Sunday, October 23, 2022. As with past conferences, Federal Circuit, District, Magistrate, and Bankruptcy judges of color and other judicial colleagues, members of the bar, and students will partner together to focus on diversity and pipeline issues in the legal field. The conference furthers the mission of JTB, which is a multi-racial nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing diversity in the bar and on the bench. This promises to be yet another wonderful gathering and celebration of our rich and diverse heritage.

ConneKtions @ Dinner is Back! ConneKtions @ Dinner is an opportunity for alumni and students to get together and learn more about one another. Additionally, it is a chance for students to learn about the day-to-day life of a lawyer and discuss other pressing questions about the law. From October 16-23, Chicago-Kent alumni will host a student or group of students for dinner at a day, time, and location predetermined. Students will select alumni based on their availability. Fundamentals of Banking Law: Chicago-Kent College of Law is pleased to sponsor Fundamentals of Banking Law (formerly Banking Law Basics) on November 9-10, 2022, an intensive 2-day program designed to familiarize participants with the basics of bank regulatory law, including the critical policies, concepts, and regulations that have shaped banking law over the years.

Spring 2023 Legal Externship Program: On Tuesday, October 18, at 12 p.m.,sblaz).
Applications for Spring 2023 Legal Externships will be available electronically by Friday, September 30, 2022, on 12twenty / Symplicity and the externship webpage. Completed applications should be submitted no later than Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Illinois Human Rights Commission:
Yoga in the Fitness Center: There will be yoga in the fitness center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am-10:00am throughout the semester. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided!

Art and Cultural Property Law Society (ACPLS): ACPLS will be holding our first general body meeting on Tuesday, October 11th at 12pm in Room 355.
Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA): Come and meet lawyers from different areas at APALSA’s first ever Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Mixer!!
APALSA Bring-Your-Own-Lunch Tuesdays: Join APALSA every Tuesday at 12PM on the 6th Floor for lunch! All members are welcome, and at least one APALSA board member will be present each week. Whether you want someone to talk to, rant to, or just eat with, we will be there. Note: the 6th floor has one big room with a lot of seating areas on the opposite side of the bathrooms. You will see it as soon as you get off the elevator!
Black Voters Matter Postcard Party: Join BLSA in partnership with Black Voters Matter, The Racial Equity and Advocacy Alliance, and Public Interest Career Center on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 3:45pm -5:15pm CT for a voting rights postcard party! Participants may participate virtually or in person in room C20. Please bring your laptop if you are attending in person. Through this volunteer opportunity you will be able to create virtual postcards to encourage voting in this year’s election! Black Voters Matters purpose is to increase power in our community to allow a community to determine its own destiny. Sign up here!
Brown Bag Lunch w/ Melinda Power: The National Lawyers Guild and HLLSA are co-sponsoring a brown bag lunch with Melinda Power on Tuesday, October 18th. She will be giving a presentation on the legal plight in Puerto Rico. Please see the flyer below for details.
Chicago Bar Association (CBA): The Chicago Bar Association is the place for law students seeking to build a legal career in the Chicagoland area. Discover practice areas, practice settings and get a glimpse of day-to-day life as a lawyer through our mentoring and shadowing programs. Student members meet lawyers and judges from all backgrounds and create relationships that may lead to mentors and future employers. Our active Young Lawyers Section has educational and social events specifically geared to new lawyers (that are fun, too!). Corporate Law Society (CLS): Northwestern Law is hosting a panel discussion next Thursday, October 13 in partnership with the SEC Historical Society. The panel will discuss the evolution of the SEC’s Regional Chicago Office. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the SEC and network with people in their Chicago regional office.

The organization’s current focus is on expansion and investment in its members by creating opportunities to network with other law school students and professionals of South Asian descent within the legal community. The organization is committed to community service work, involvement with the Indian American Bar Association, and continued assistance of the South Asian community in need of legal aid.
