Announcements
Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar: On WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1, Suzanne Schmitz, President of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar will do a short presentation on the Illinois bar exam, as well as answer questions you may have. The presentation is scheduled for 10:30-11AM in the auditorium.
We encourage 3L’s and/or Dec 2023 graduates to attend. Please let us know if you can attend here. You can also ask any questions on this form too.
The Law Library: The Law Library is asking for students’ help in creating Prepare to Practice workshops! We want these workshops, which will be held in the library later in the semester, to be fully customized to students’ needs.
To get started, librarians will be at the Spak third floor table on Tuesday, February 28 from 11-1. We’ll have a suggestion box where you can write a topic (or topics!) that you might need extra help with, or that you haven’t taken a class on yet but want to know the basics. Topics can be pretty much anything, from the foundations of admin law to a contracts refresher to tech help.
Don’t have a topic suggestion but do have a question about the library? Ask away! We’ll have resources on hand that can help you access our guides and databases, our study aids, old exams, and pretty much anything else that the library has to offer.
If you don’t have a topic suggestion or a question, we will also have candy available! Stop by, say hi, and learn about the library while enjoying a snack.
If you’re unable to stop by but have a suggestion or a question, email us at refreq.
The Law Lab: Join The Law Lab at Noon on Monday, 2/27, as we welcome Jason Dirkx, Director, Practice Innovation and Technology Solutions at Paul Hastings as part of our Innovation Series. Jason leads a team at the firm to manage and develop its practice technologies to help the firm more effectively deliver legal services to its clients. Jason is also a Chicago-Kent alum.

The Effect of Dobbs on Work Law Symposium l March 3, 2023

Jackson Women’s Health Organization) will affect the workplace and the law of the workplace. Please join us to hear talks by prominent scholars and advocates from around the country. Register Today!
The Danger Inside the House: Addressing the Threat of Domestic Violent Extremism l March 23, 2023
For the last few years, the threat of violent extremism primarily has originated from domestic actors, rather than from abroad. Although the U.S. government has developed highly successful investigatory and prosecutorial strategies to combat internationally-based violent extremism, the domestic threat poses additional challenges because of the constitutional protections afforded to U.S. citizens. This all-day, in-person, seminar explores the evolving domestic violent extremism (DVE) threat and identifies ways in which federal, state, and local governments can work with non-government organizations and the private sector to mitigate the threat. Register Today!
44th Annual Kenneth M. Piper Lecture l March 28, 2023
Join us to hear Charlotte Garden, Julius E. Davis Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School, deliver this year’s Kenneth M. Piper Lecture. In this lecture, Professor Garden will address what strikes and other collective action might look like in a fissured or virtual workplace. As to both fissured and virtual workplaces, Professor Garden will consider what an “equal and opposite” reaction might look like – for example, a strike of an employer that mainly transacts business online might call for the deployment of a digital picket-line. Professor Garden will also discuss how the law might impede or support new forms of collection action that result from these changing business practices. This free lecture will be held in the Chicago-Kent College of Law Ogilvie Auditorium and is in-person only and will not be live-streamed.
