Dana Pownall

2013-2014: Executive Submissions Editor

Biography: 

Dana Pownall graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in neuropsychology, the study of the brain and human behavior. Before attending law school, Dana lived in Chicago, working at a forensic neuropsychology clinic, in corporate communications, and in college admissions.

Dana has volunteered and done various externships in public interest fields, including volunteering and managing volunteers at Chicago-Kent College of Law’s Self Help Web Center at the Daley Center. Dana was also President of the Chicago-Kent student chapter of the American Constitution Society, which advocates for human dignity, individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, and access to justice. Dana is interested in the intersection of human rights, civil liberties, and international law.

Dana serves as the submissions editor for the Chicago-Kent Journal of International and Comparative Law, in addition to working in the Development Office at Chicago-Kent. She hopes to work in development at a policy agency advocating for domestic and international human rights and civil liberties after graduation.

 

Peter Cassata

A native of northwest Chicago, Peter earned an MSc in comparative politics from the London School of Economics and a BA in philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania.  Peter has served as a judicial extern at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and at the Illinois Appellate Court.  He has also worked as a research manager for Dean Harold Krent and as a research assistant for Professor Steven Heyman.  In addition to the Journal of International and Comparative Law, Peter is an executive articles editor on the board of the Chicago-Kent Law Review.  Prior to law school, he lived in Washington, DC, where he worked in public relations at Burson-Marsteller and was the associate editor of the Atlantic Council, a foreign policy think tank.  Outside of school, Peter enjoys politics and technology blogs as well as Chicago sports.

 

Tyra Blew

Tyra Blew graduated from the University of Kansas with a double-major in political science and economics. Before attending law school, Tyra lived in Washington, D.C. and worked for a national political campaign. She also received a Master of Arts degree in political science from Oklahoma State University in 2011.

After her first year of law school, Tyra participated in the Mediation and ADR clinic at IIT Chicago-Kent and became a volunteer mediator with the Center for Conflict Resolution. In addition to her enthusiasm for public service, Tyra has developed an interest in corporate law through her externships with DLA Piper and Accenture during the Spring 2013 semester and, currently, the legal group at Merieux NutriSciences Corporation.

Tyra serves as managing editor for the Chicago-Kent Journal of International and Comparative Law and is a research assistant for Professor Martin Malin and Professor Jerry Goldman. In her free time, Tyra enjoys traveling, cooking, and playing with puppies.

Katie Mallon

A lifelong Chicago resident, Katie grew up in Beverly and attended Northwestern University, graduating with a B.S. in Social Policy and International Studies. Katie spent a year traveling and volunteering at Northwestern University’s Center on Forced Migration before coming to law school. The summer after her 1L year, Katie was an extern for Judge Ann Claire Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. As a 2L, Katie participated in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, worked as a research assistant for Professor Bartram Brown, and completed an externship with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. Currently, Katie continues to work for Professor Brown and is the Executive Editor of the Seventh Circuit Review. In her free time, Katie enjoys travelling, playing piano, and exploring Chicago neighborhoods.
